Julphar Residential Tower
Reem Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE
There were twin design objectives for this luxury tower on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi. First, create a contemporary design language with elegant simplicity as a guiding principle throughout. Second, maximise the impact of floor-to-ceiling views of the sea and the horizon.
In terms of demographics, we were targeting a design-savvy audience of young professionals and small families.
Space-planning of the units was the starting point: we wanted to maximise the natural light flowing through the apartments, whatever the size and orientation. Particularly with the larger apartments, we took care to make sure even the internal areas towards the centre of the building had as much exposure as possible to sunlight. We achieved this by using detailed sunlight surveys to inform the placement of walls, as well as the orientation of rooms and transition spaces.
For the material palette we went for light colours: warm woods, soft cream stone, and subtle tones of beige and brown for the upholstery.
The CEO of the client, RAK Properties, praised the design, saying: “All the design elements combine comfort with practicality, to maximize the use of space, natural light, and offer warmth through the materials used and its colour scheme.”
